My old man born and bred in what a recent BBC documentary described as the worst slums in London, used to say "never trust a man in corduroy trousers" . His point being that the landed gentry and the middle classes wore 'em. Were he alive I'm sure he would agree to change his philosophy to include "or red" in his advice.
