It looks as though the long reign of Muammar Gaddafi is drawing to a close as the rebel fighters engage in the last desperate battle for control of Tripoli. Who knows what the future holds for the Libyan people and we can but wish them well. In the early days Gaddafi spoke a great deal about "direct democracy" and even claimed to have been influenced by Kropotkin and Bakunin but in the end there was to be no democracy, direct or otherwise, in his brutal regime.
