It's that time of year again and as usual we are getting a full dose of hand wringing self flagellation about our total inability to deal with snow. Why can't we be more like Finland or Canada moan the moaners. If only we could be prepared. What's wrong with us?
Listen chums! It snows in winter, Putin is probably not entirely kosher and the pope is a catholic. Get over it. And yes, I will be clearing the snow from the front of our house despite all threats of litigation. Don't get me started. Just don't get me fucking started.

We lived in an isolated part of France for some years and the snow drifts would often reach the first floor windows and opening the door to the outdoors would meet with a wall of snow which we would have to dig ourseleves out of. However the tiny country lanes we would have to negotiate to get about were always cleared by local farmers who had snow ploughs on their tractors. We never ever were snowed in, the postman could always get to us. However the national roads were always dangerous and iced over. A lesson learned; the state fails and communities are ignored. Give us your salt, lend us your snow ploughs and give us a crack at autonomy. And when we've sorted that out fuck off.
