IDS. The Mr Nasty of a very nasty party.

Ten or so years back, when Theresa May suggested that many people thought of the Tories as the Nasty Party, the end result was much earnest, wide eyed proclamations of liberal decency from the party.  Gay marriage? Yes. Hug a tree, or for that matter hug a fucking hoodie?  Bring it on.  But truth be told there really is "something of the night" about not just Micheal Howard but the whole party. The loathsome IDS is just the most public example of a very unpleasant current in politics. We don't need the Guardianistas to explain all this to us but to be fair, Polly Toynbee has a thoughtful and provocative  piece here.

A bit onesided from Polly. Limiting families, birth control, has always been aimed at what the so called higher classes deem to be the lowest. Keith (Sheath) Joseph and the Tories were not alone. The left have always targeted the lower classes for population control. Enforced sterilization has a long tradition among communist/socialist regimes. Limiting working class breeding potential was an objective of Wells, Shaw and other notable socialists. Engels, in a letter to Kautsky, wrote about the "abstract possibility" that the number of persons in a communist society might have to be limited by conscious control'. It was an objective of eugenicists such as Margaret Sanger and Emma Goldman, and is not far removed from the current middle class led free choice principle underpinning the abortion industry. It has implications not merely for the working poor but for ethnic minorities. [Martin Luther King, Jr.] once said, “The Negro cannot win as long as he is willing to sacrifice the lives of his children for comfort and safety.” How can the “Dream” survive if we murder the children? Every aborted baby is like a slave in the womb of his or her mother. The mother decides his or her fate'.

There a poster doing the rounds which says: 'White liberals march around with signs that say 'black lives matter'. Except when it comes to aborting black babies. Then the 'matter' is just tissue'.
I do not subscribe to the view that the abortion industry and pro-choice advocates are racist; but they belong to a movement that we should view with suspicion.
