From Kim Jong-Un to IDS the one thing that political leaders hate is being made a laughing stock of. They truly don't like it up 'em. That's why political cartoonists are so precious to us and such a pain in the arse to the power elites of the world. "National treasure" might be a phrase banded about far too liberally but it's hard to find a better way of describing our own Martin Rowson and Steve Bell. More power to their elbows. Give yourself a Christmas treat and visit the Cartoon Museum why don't you?

A short while ago a London University lecturer held a seminar on political cartoons. A speaker was invited who had done research on cartoons in the context of Irish politics. Seeing the word 'cartoon' in the advert for the seminar the Imam turned up on the off chance that he would be offended. The speaker briefly mentioned the Danish cartoons and the Imam was duly offended and by-passed all complaints procedure going straight to the VC who came down heavy on the organizers of the seminar. There will be no more seminars on political cartoons. It is a disgrace that free thinking anarchists and others are tolerating this kind of restriction within our universities.
Of course there are brave cartoonists like Steve Bell, who has a reputation for anti-antisemitism but his target is restricted to attacks on Jews (er Israelis) lest he offends his anti-west Guardian readers or gets blown up or decapitated by irate jihadists.
